My spare freezer, the one that lives on the third floor in the kids playroom, got unplugged. The plug was knocked half way out and it wasn't running for goodness knows how long. I don't go up there often, my husband only slightly more frequently and my children don't notice such things.
They don't even notice such things when they start to leak and smell.
The food is rotten and the mess is disgusting beyond imagination. Once it was opened the stench was strong. There are no windows on the third floor.
My first reaction was to have my husband turn it back on and freeze it all so it won't smell as much. It still needs to be dealt with though.
Why can children not smell or notice this kind of thing? My husband knew there was a problem as soon as he got to the top landing, and the children had been up there all morning, the day before and the day before that.
Ooof. 9 packages of soy free hotdogs imported from America, a drawer full of chicken, another full of home made soups as well as hamburger and ground turkey, all rotted.
I am not crying over the loss, but the mess and the smell may cause me to cry as we work on getting it cleaned up over the next couple days.
Ugh! Not good! Hope refreezing everything makes cleaning up a lot easier to deal with.

ReplyDeleteseveral years back a friend had gone to to America for a week in the summer. a disgusting smell emanated from their "empty" parents apartment next door to theirs but we thought a cat had gotten in and died.nope-the electricity had gone off and a freezer of quality hechsher meat had been it.
may this be a kapara and a yeshua for everlasting health for you and your son!
Sue, it helped the smell, but the cleanup... nothing will make the pleasant.
ReplyDeleteMindy, I am leaving it to my husband. It is both too smelly and too much work for me. It may take him a (long) while, but it is better than me trying to do it myself and getting sick in the process.
Mikimi, that is aweful! Last time this happened, (yes it happened before) was a couple years ago when a worker unplugged it and didn't plug it back in. That time it was stuffed full of my expressed milk. That is actually what we bought it to store. Definitely devastating but also definitely beshert.

I bought my 4 drawer freezer years ago so I could enjoy buying B&J coffee ice cream, and Tivol products. Nowadays I also stock up on Barkol (or other supermarket) sales on cottage cheese or deli meat etc.
